As reading is going the electronic way globally, book lovers prefer to carry a simple Ebook reader with them instead of a pile of physical books. And just like with many other electronic gadgets, Ebook readers like Kindle and Nook are now being increasingly replaced by smart phones and tablets as the preferred devices for reading books and magazines. The rapid spread of tablets and the increase in the display sizes of smart phones has mainly fueled this transition.

There are several Ebook reader apps for reading books for all the platforms like Android and iOS. In this post I will review one of the best Android Ebook reader app called MantanoEbook Reader Lite. Mantano is an advanced Ebook reader which supports both the PDF and EPUB formats. Install the app from the Play Store and import the books from you want to add to the Montano Ebook reader. Ebooks can be imported from the SD card of your Android device or from an Ebook management software in your PC. Books are displayed on the app’s ‘Bookshelf’ either in the form of a list or thumbnails. You can arrange the books by its author, title, rating, addition date, and last access date.

Reading the books on the Mantanto Ebook reader is a nice experience with a slew of features like highlighting text, adding annotations and bookmarks, one touch access to online dictionary, etc. A small icon at the bottom right of the app’s screen opens the Ebook’s table of content and stored bookmarks, highlights, and notes. There are multiple themes to choose from (free version has just two themes). Just like other popular Ebook reader apps, MantanoEbook reader too has night mode for reading in low light conditions. There is an on-board book store for buying and downloading books online.

What I specifically liked about the MantanoEbook Reader Lite is its advanced support for PDF files. Reading Ebooks in the PDF format can be a bad experience on many other Ebook reader apps like Aldiko. But Mantano makes it easy to read PDF files with features like pan and zoom, one column display with a double-click, and quick access to table of contents, bookmarks, highlights, etc. Mantanto also has support for Adobe DRM encrypted books. The app is totally free and the developers make money with the ads displayed on the app. If you use multiple gadgets like smart phones and tablets, a paid service called ‘Mantanto cloud’ stores your books in the cloud and facilitates anywhere access. Subscription charges to this cloud service start at US$ 1 per month. The app also has a premium version with additional features.

One area where developers can bring some improvement is the UI of the app. Interface of the app is a bit cluttered and confusing. Other than that Mantanto Ebook Reader Lite is a very good Android Ebook reader app you can try.
