Samsung has at-last officially launched its latest Galaxy Note 510 (Note 510) in India. The newest Galaxy tablet is Samsung’s answer to the iPad Mini. The tablet is priced at Rs 30,990 and will be available across electronic stores in the country soon. The tablet was anyhow listed on Samsung India’s official e-store and some other Ecommerce stores earlier this week. So, which of the two tablets should you opt?
Note 510 has an 8 inch TFT LCD screen with a passable resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels (HD) at 189 Pixels per inch (PPI). But Apple’s iPad Mini too has still lesser resolution of 1024 × 768 pixels at 163 PPI (remember, no retina display for the smaller iPad). But Samsung has ensured that this tablet doesn’t lag in terms of performance. It runs on an Exynos 4 1.6GHz quadcore processor coupled with 2 GB of RAM. In contrast, iPad Mini runs on a much slower 1GHz dual core processor and 512 MB of RAM. Both the tablets run on the latest versions of their respective operating systems (Note 510 on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and iPad Mini on iOS 6.1.4). Both the tablets also have all the latest connectivity options like HSPA, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. Note 510 and iPad Mini have non removable batteries which give good battery backup. Even as both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store now have the same number of apps, the later still scores in terms of the quantity and quality of apps available for tablets. The cameras on both iPad Mini and Note 510 are standard affairs offering normal picture quality. But the rear cameras on both the tablets can record videos in Full HD quality.Note 510 has the signature S Pen stylus (the second tablet in the Galaxy series to feature this) complementing its multi touch user interface.
Verdict: Samsung Galaxy Note 510 vs iPad Mini
The Wi-Fi + 3G versions of both the tablets are priced similarly (iPad Mini costs Rs. 29,900). Even though the Note 510 disappoints a bit on its display front, its offers far superior processing speed than the iPad Mini. iPad Mini’s 1 GHz dual-core processor and 512 MB RAM pale out in comparison with the processing speed of Note 510. While choosing between the Note 510 and iPad Mini, the one thing you need to remember is that iPad Mini is now a bit dated. Apple is expected to release iPad Mini 2 in the second half of 2013. The forthcoming iPad Mini is expected to have a fast processor and better display. If you are a die hard fan of Apple’s products then you can wait till the new iPad Mini arrives. Otherwise, for now, people who are looking for a mid sized tablet (with a screen size of 8 inches) can go for the Note 510.
