Nokia has announced its new budget phone for emerging markets called the ‘ Nokia Asha 210’. Asha 210 is an addition to its Series 40 based Asha series of phones. Nokia has ensured that most of the necessary features like camera and internet connectivity are available in the new phone. The phone is powered by a 1,110 mAh battery and gives an excellent 12 hours of uninterrupted talk-time. The phone looks good and has the design borrowed from the older Eseries phones like E71 and E72.

Priced at just $ 72 (approximately Rs. 3,900 in India), the phone is mainly targeted at internet savvy young customers who are want to be hooked to social networks most of the time. Nokia has partnered with three social networking and messaging apps (Facebook, Weibo, or WhatsApp) for the new Asha 210. The phone will sport a dedicated key for accessing any one of the above three social networking and messaging apps depending upon the geographic location. Though not yet announced, it should be Facebook in India. Being a Series 40 phone, many other regular apps like Opera Mini and Nimbuzz will be available for the Asha 210.  Users of the phone can connect to the internet either through EDGE or Wi-Fi. Bluetooth functionality is also available for connecting with other gadgets.

The keyboard of the phone is very convenient for typing longer texts and chatting. Shortcut keys for accessing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are also available on the phone’s rubberized keypad. Nokia didn’t announce the details regarding the processor on which the phone runs and the RAM available inside the phone. But it can be safely assumed that it will a sub-1GhZ chip coupled with 512 MB or lesser RAM. A 2 Megapixel rear camera can click some decent quality pictures.

Overall, the new Nokia Asha 210 is another good attempt by Nokia to recapture the market lost to Micromax and Samsung. But it will face heavy competition from the newly released Samsung Rex series of budget phones.
